Peter L Phillips, DPAGB, LRPS
Passionately interested in all things Photographic
Peter was born & bred in Doncaster, Yorkshire and living next door to a high street photographer was where an interest in photography began during the 50’s and 60’s. He left the north and ventured south to do a degree in photographic science & engineering at the School of Photography, Regent Street Polytechnic in London, now The University of Westminster.
This education with a ‘systems thinking’ approach to all things photographic and imaging led Peter to a near-on 40 year career in advanced technology research with BAE Systems in Filton, Bristol. He had the invaluable experience of working on advances in optics, human factors, display technologies, colour perception, colour management systems, IT and computing. This career culminated in him heading up the Systems Engineering Innovation Centre (SEIC) at Loughborough University.
The priorities of family life and work meant that serious practical photography had to take a back seat. Peter’s retirement in 2006 allowed him to devote more time to photography, image processing and photographic societies. He is a former committee member of the Royal Photographic Society Western Region and a member of the Landscape special interest group, a founder executive member of the local Avon Valley Photographic Society and Chairman of the Avon Valley International Salon.
An executive member and webmaster of the Crown Monochrome Group. He joined the Hanham & Kingswood Photo Club in 2025.
Peter attained his RPS Licentiateship in January 2010 and his distinction from the PAGB (DPAGB) in November 2013.
